Feature Tracking in Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging

چکیده
Purpose: An accurate and practical method to measure parameters like strain in myocardial tissue is of great clinical value, since it has been shown that strain is a more sensitive and earlier marker for contractile dysfunction than ejection fraction (EF). Current CMR technologies for strain assessment are time consuming and difficult to implement in daily clinical practice. Feature tracking is a technology that can lead to more automatization and robustness of quantitative analysis of medical images with less time consumption than comparable methods. Methods: Feature tracking (FT) technique was tested in computed-generated phantom models with varying image resolution, frame rate, and tissue dynamics. The phantom motion was known exactly and allowed a careful check of the intrinsic accuracy. The same technique was also tested in 7 patients undergoing clinical MRI: 2 normal, 1 non-ischemic, 2 ischemic cardiomyopathy, 2 hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Analysis of clinical CMR involved calculation of ejection fraction (EF) as well as radial, circumferential and longitudinal strain Results: The method is well suited for tracking left ventricular myocardium in radial, circumferential as well as longitudinal direction. In addition, strain can be assessed at epicardial, endocardial and mid myocardial levels 3/19 Conclusions: This new method offers a robust and time saving procedure to quantify myocardial tissue displacement, velocity and deformation parameters on regular SSFP sequences of CMR imaging. It therefore can be implemented easily into clinical practice.

DNA Damages on Blood Cells After Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Introduction: Along with the increased use of cardiac imaging at clinics there is increased attention to the potential risks related to the methods used like magnetic resonance (MR) and it cannot be ruled out that MR can alter DNA structure. The aim of this review is to assess the impact of routine cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) scanning on DNA damages in human T lymphocytes....
متن کاملCardiac and Hepatic T2*-Weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Abstract Background Iron overload is the main transfusion related side effects in patients with transfusion dependent hemoglobinopathies. Severe iron deposition in tissues leads to organ dysfunction. Many organs can be affected such as heart, liver, and endocrine organs. Cardiac failure and liver fibrosis are the consequent of Iron overload in transfusion dependent hemoglobinopathy. Magne...

Purpose: To assess the relationship between the severity of coronary arteries involvement and the extent and pattern of myocardial scars in Cardiac Magnetic Resonance of patients with history of remote myocardial infarction. Materials and Methods: The Cardiac Magnetic Resonance images of sixty patients with history of remote ST segment or non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction were ...
متن کاملAssessment of Organ Specific Iron Overload in Transfusion-dependent Thalassemia by Magnetic Resonance Imaging Techniques
The consequence of repeated blood transfusions in thalassemia is iron overload in different organs. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a reliable, non-invasive and accurate method for iron detection in various tissues, hence the introduction of MRI has revolutionized the management of these patients and improved the life expectancy of them. Cardiac MRI T2* has a profound effect not only on est...
متن کاملThe Correlation between Left and Right Ventricular Ejection Fractions in Patients with Ischemic Heart Disease, Documented by Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Introduction: The correlation between right and left ventricular ejection fractions (RVEF and LVEF, respectively) has been studied in only a small number of patients with a marked decrease in RVEF and LVEF. The aim of the present study was to compare LVEF and RVEF in patients with ischemic heart disease. RVEF and LVEF were measured by Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) imaging. Materials a...
متن کاملFeature tracking cardiac magnetic resonance imaging: A review of a novel non-invasive cardiac imaging technique
Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally. Early diagnostic markers are gaining popularity for better patient care disease outcomes. There is an increasing interest in noninvasive cardiac imaging biomarkers to diagnose subclinical cardiac disease. Feature tracking cardiac magnetic resonance imaging is a novel post-processing technique that is increasingly bei...
